Love Yourself Enough ...

"Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have"! Elite Daily

As we enter into the month of February, which is considered the month of LOVE, I want to challenge you to love yourself enough to take care of yourself, so that you can truly love those around you.

In Mark 12: 30-31 we are told to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. The second is this: "Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these."

We are being told to love others as we love ourselves. So many people that I talk with are not loving themselves enough to take care of themselves. We must first take care of ourselves before we can take care of those around us. Even Jesus went off to a secure place to take care of himself.

Take a self-exam. How are you loving yourself in your mind? What are the thoughts that you have towards yourself, towards God, and towards others? Are they uplifting, encouraging, and life giving? Or, are they defeating and negative thoughts? There is so much power in our thoughts.

What about your soul? How are you taking care of your soul? Are you meditating on God's word? Are you being mindful of what you watch and listen too? Our eyes and ears are the windows to our soul. In our crazy, fast-paced lives, it is so easy to get caught up in the things of the world, when we really need to find rest for our souls. Who are you letting into your life? Those who are life-givers or life-takers?

Your strength is what will carry you through tough times. Are you weary? How are you taking care of yourself? Are you working out? Eating right? Getting enough sleep?

Mark 12 gives us a high calling in that we can only love others to the level that we love ourselves. You are worthy, you are called, you are redeemed. The Lord loved you so much that His one and only son died for you! I know putting self above others goes against what we are taught, but I do not mean this to be a selfish act but rather a selfless act. You see you cannot give out of an empty jar. Therefore, love yourself enough to take care of yourself so then you can pour out from a never-ending jar of love!
